What you pay for a food licence has two parts: the government fee that goes to FSSAI, and a service fee if someone files it for you. Here is what each one costs under the 2026 rules.

The fee is charged per year. The exact State License amount depends on your kind of business, and the FoSCoS portal shows the final figure before you pay. If you pay for several years together, the fee is simply multiplied by the number of years.

The fee covers:
Turnover and kind of business decide whether you need Basic, State or Central. This is the biggest factor.
Paying for five years at once costs five times the annual fee, but you do not have to think about it again for a while.
Each kitchen, factory, shop or warehouse needs its own licence, so three outlets means three fees.
Within a State License, manufacturers and hotels are usually charged more than traders and small food service units.
Adding products or moving premises means a modification application, which can carry its own fee.
If you need the number quickly, the Tatkal service fee applies in place of the standard one.

The restaurant example is worth a second look. Before April 2026 a turnover of ₹80 lakh needed a State License. Under the new limit of ₹1.5 crore it only needs Basic Registration, which is far cheaper.
